Three Rescued as Container Crushes Car in Lagos

Lagos State officials have rescued three people after a 40ft container fell on a Toyota Corolla car carrying them at Ojuelegba on Sunday night.

A statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reports that the container-laden truck was in the process of ascending a bridge when it lost balance, toppling over and crashing down onto the car.

The statement revealed that among those trapped were two adult males and one female.

The statement excerpt reads, "Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Police and other emergency responders last night rescued 3 casualties from trapped saloon car at Ojuelegba inward Stadium on Funsho Williams Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.

“Traffic Officer Olajide Olukoga 'Bravo' who led the Lastma rescue operations at the scene of the accident confirmed that a 40ft container fell on top of a Toyota Corolla car (JJJ 811 FB) at the top Ojuelegba bridge inwards Stadium.

“He confirmed further that out of those 3 casualties rescued from the Toyota Corolla saloon car, only one (male) came out unhurt and was allowed to go immediately.

“The remaining 2 rescued casualties (an adult male and a female) were rushed to hospital by an ambulance belonging to LASEMA.

“Police men from Surulere Police Division were on the scene to provide adequate security. While the entire Ojuelegba bridge inwards Stadium was temporarily closed and traffic diverted to the service lane by Lastma as Rescue and recovery operations were ongoing.”
