The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the decision followed consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as representatives from the six geopolitical zones.

The party said Amaechi’s selection followed the conclusion of its presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up and gained support from party members across the country.

The ADC described the proposed Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a partnership between two experienced political figures, saying their combined experience in governance and public administration would help address Nigeria’s economic, security, and development challenges.

Amaechi previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation under the Federal Government, where he oversaw major rail and transport projects.

The party said his political influence in the South-South and wider southern region would strengthen the ticket and help build a broad national coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC said the partnership represents its commitment to providing an alternative focused on economic recovery, job creation, security, and national unity.
