The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, that a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket would have the best chance of defeating the ruling party in the 2027 general election.
Responding to Lawal's remarks, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the former SGF's comments did not deserve a response.
"He said nothing that's worth responding to".
Lawal had, in an interview with Symfoni TV, argued that Obi and Kwankwaso would perform better as a joint ticket than if they contested separately.
He also predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would lose if he entered the 2027 presidential race.
The former SGF further claimed President Bola Tinubu was instrumental in the formation of the APC, financed major aspects of Muhammadu Buhari's successful 2015 presidential campaign and put aside his own presidential ambition to help unite the opposition against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Despite praising Tinubu's role before becoming president, Lawal described the current administration as a failure, accusing it of falling short of Nigerians' expectations.
Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement insisted the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance remained the APC's biggest political concern ahead of the 2027 election, while former presidential adviser Akin Osuntokun described the alliance as a stronger electoral ticket than the Labour Party's 2023 pairing and claimed former President Olusegun Obasanjo played a key role in bringing both politicians together.
