Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the Court of Appeal’s decision to suspend the execution of the Federal High Court judgment seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
In a statement posted on his X account, Atiku said the ruling was significant, especially as the application for the stay was initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He expressed concern over what he described as “judicial contradictions and politically charged rulings” in the courts, saying the situation has placed the judiciary under public scrutiny.
Atiku, who is a member of the ADC, quoted the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, as saying that the judiciary itself is now facing a credibility test.
He warned that any attempt to weaken Nigeria’s democracy through judicial interference would pose a serious threat to the country, urging the judiciary to uphold the Constitution, rule of law, and the interests of Nigerians.
