Defence Minister Christopher Musa has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving salary increases of between 30% and 80% for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the move as a significant boost to troop welfare and military operations.
In a statement issued Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Musa said the salary review demonstrates the administration's commitment to supporting military personnel serving in various security operations across the country.
He said the increase would ease the financial burden on officers and soldiers while strengthening ongoing efforts to combat insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and oil theft.
Musa said the additional investment in personnel reflects the government's recognition of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces in safeguarding the country's territorial integrity and maintaining national security.
The minister assured the President that the military would respond with greater professionalism, discipline and operational effectiveness, urging personnel to see the enhanced remuneration as renewed motivation to intensify efforts against insecurity.
He also reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting the government's drive to modernise military equipment, strengthen technological capabilities and improve the welfare of service personnel and their families.
President Tinubu announced the salary review on Tuesday. The new pay structure, which takes effect Sept. 1, will benefit about 250,000 personnel across the Army, Navy and Air Force, with increases ranging from 30% to 80% depending on rank.
