The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned four suspects over their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of its officer, Ekpeyong Asuquo Owoh, in Anambra State.
The suspects, Michael Okafor, also known as Onyechimeleze; Chinedu Joseph Chukwudozie, alias Kante; Chibunna Olisa; and Chigozie Olisa, also known as Ability, were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count charge bordering on terrorism and the kidnapping of DSS personnel.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired to commit acts of terrorism and abducted Owoh while he was travelling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Awka, Anambra State.
According to the prosecution, Owoh was taken hostage and later killed during the alleged operation.
The defendants were also accused of belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and of possessing firearms, including AK-47 and pump-action rifles.
Security sources said Owoh disappeared on Feb. 23, 2022, along Orlu Road in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State while travelling to Awka in a silver-colored Pontiac Vibe.
“The DSS has continued to intensify its intelligence-led operations and prosecution of individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country,” a security source said.
The source added that the case, involving a DSS officer, is expected to proceed through the courts as investigations and prosecution continue.
