A former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu have been charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs.
The Metropolitan Police said they have both been remanded in custody and are appearing at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
An investigation was launched after detectives were notified in May of potential offenses under modern slavery legislation, the police said.
The statement from the police also disclosed that a child has now been safeguarded.
Senator Ekweremadu’s media aide, Uche Anichukwu told Nigeria Info that he needs time to get the facts about the matter.
He, however, argued that what is out there is not the truth.
