The Federal Government has commenced another phase of mass trial of suspected terrorists facing terrorism-related charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The trial, which was previously conducted at Kainji in Niger State, has been moved to Abuja due to logistics and the availability of more court facilities.

The prosecution is being led by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, while the Legal Aid Council is providing defence representation for the suspects.

The week-long trial is taking place across multiple courtrooms of the Federal High Court, with several judges, including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite and Musa Liman, handling different cases.

At least 58 suspected terrorists were listed for trial before Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday, while security was tightened around the court and the Central Business District.

The development follows an earlier mass trial involving about 500 suspected terrorists between April 7 and 10 in Abuja, which the AGF described as the ninth phase of the exercise.
