The Federal Government has approved the implementation of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments aimed at strengthening Nigeria's fiscal and trade framework, boosting competitiveness and increasing revenue generation.
The Nigeria Customs Service announced the development in a statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada.
According to the statement, the new measures introduce changes to the Customs and Excise Tariff, including revised ECOWAS Common External Tariff schedules, updated import and export prohibition lists, new excise duty schedules and a Green Tax surcharge on vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc and above.
The Customs Service urged importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the revised tariff schedules and comply with the new fiscal and regulatory requirements.
It said the full policy document has been published on the Service's official website to promote transparency and support smooth implementation.
The Service added that the success of the new fiscal measures will depend on stakeholders' cooperation in advancing trade facilitation, revenue collection, border security and sustainable economic growth.
