The Federal High Court has begun the phased relocation of its Lagos Judicial Division to a newly completed court complex in Ikoyi, with a one-month free parking concession for lawyers aimed at easing the transition.
The move, which commenced July 31, shifts court operations from the court's former premises on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive to its new headquarters on Bourdillon Road.
Court officials said the relocation will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to judicial proceedings and administrative services.
In public notices issued by the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, the court said the first phase covers Vacation Courts 7 and 12, Courts 2, 3, 4 and 5, as well as the offices of the Chief Registrar, Deputy Chief Registrars and the Electronic Litigation Registrar of Process.
The court said the Vacation Courts began sitting at the new complex on Aug. 3, while additional courts and administrative offices will relocate in subsequent phases.
To support the transition, the court approved free parking for legal practitioners at the new complex from July 31 through Aug. 31.
Court management said the concession is intended to make access easier for members of the legal profession during the relocation, adding that normal parking charges will apply after the grace period expires.
The Federal High Court said the new purpose-built complex is expected to improve the administration of justice by providing enhanced facilities for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and other court users.
The court urged members of the Nigerian Bar Association, litigants and the public to take note of the relocation and adjust their court appearances and official engagements accordingly, assuring stakeholders that further notices would be issued as the remaining courts and offices move to the new facility.
