Nigeria’s Flamingos have won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after completing a perfect campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Captain Chidera Harmony led the charge, scoring twice from the penalty spot as Nigeria established a 2-0 lead before halftime. Harmony converted in the 15th minute and added her second 20 minutes later.
The Flamingos maintained control after the break, with Oluebube Umejiaku extending their advantage in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the rout in the 90th minute.
The victory means Nigeria finished the tournament with five wins from five matches, combining attacking efficiency with defensive discipline throughout the competition.
The title also provides a boost for coach Hakeem Busari and his players as they prepare for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco next month.
Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised the team for its performance and expressed confidence in its prospects at the global tournament.
“The Flamingos have done very well, made the nation proud, and I have faith in the players that they are not done yet,” Ikpeme said.
He described winning all five matches as a significant achievement and said the WAFU-B tournament had provided valuable preparation for the World Cup.
The Flamingos, bronze medalists at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, are expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
