The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit candidates for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for February 2027.

INEC said the deadline, originally set for Saturday, Aug. 8, has been moved to Tuesday, Aug. 11, following appeals from political parties for additional time to complete the process.

The commission also announced the suspension of PVC collection in Osun State ahead of the Aug. 15 governorship election.

INEC said voters who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight Sunday, Aug. 9, to download printable copies of their cards.

The commission said the deadline would allow it to compile final statistics on PVC downloads ahead of the election.

PVC collection in Osun began at registration area level from July 22 to July 31 before moving to local government areas from Aug. 1 to Aug. 7.

INEC said replacement downloadable PVCs had also been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central local government areas after hoodlums stole cards from the two collection centres.

The commission stressed that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote.

INEC assured Osun residents that it remains prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election on Aug. 15.
