The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) “pending further directive.”

The decision was reached at a meeting of the commission’s leaders on Thursday.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting and signed by INEC’s head of Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, said additional machines have been deployed to pressure areas.

It said the extension of the CVR was to “register all eligible Nigerians that are interested in registering.”

The initial deadline for the voter registration was Thursday, 30 June, but there had been numerous calls for INEC to extend it, including the prodding from the House of Representatives for a 60-day addition.

Submission of Candidate Lists and Particulars

INEC also deliberated on the issuance of Certified True Copies (CTCs) of documents and the commencement of the uploading of the list and personal particulars of governorship and State Assembly candidates.

The commission resolved to stick to the 1 – 15 July period for the uploading of the list and personal particulars of political parties’ nominated candidates for governorship and State Assembly primaries.

It advised the parties against waiting until the final day before uploading the documents as the Candidates Nomination Portal will shut down at 6 pm on that day.

INEC has received 186 requests for Certified True Copy (CTC) of documents and its officers are working “round the clock” to process them, its statement mentioned.
