The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, as political parties intensify preparations for the general elections.
The final list for the Senate and House of Representatives contains 4,408 candidates, according to an analysis of the candidate documents published by the electoral commission.
The figure comprises 1,195 candidates contesting seats in the Senate and 3,213 candidates vying for positions in the House of Representatives.
Of the total number of candidates, 3,965 are male while 443 are female. The Senate list has 1,080 male candidates and 115 female candidates, while the House of Representatives list contains 2,885 male candidates and 328 female candidates.
The Allied Peoples Movement has fielded the highest number of female candidates across both chambers, with 11 women contesting Senate seats and 42 contesting House of Representatives seats.
INEC's publication comes as preparations gather pace for the 2027 general elections.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections will hold on February 6.
The commission had earlier released the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates, featuring 18 presidential candidates from different political parties.
Those on the presidential list include President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement.
