Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent Instagram account impersonating him online, describing the profile as fake and misleading.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, the account operates under the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan and has been sharing content falsely attributed to the former president.

The statement clarified that Jonathan does not maintain any Instagram account and urged members of the public, media organizations, and social media users to ignore content originating from the impersonator profile.

The aide said some of the posts on the account were copied from Jonathan’s verified Facebook page in an attempt to appear authentic.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent Instagram account,” the statement noted, warning that the profile was falsely presenting itself as an official platform for the former president.

Jonathan’s team advised the public not to share, promote, or rely on information published through the account.

The impersonation account had attracted more than half a million followers as of Saturday, raising concerns about the potential spread of misinformation and online fraud.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, maintains official accounts on Facebook and X but has repeatedly stated that he is not active on Instagram.
