The Lagos State Government has approved a ₦50,000 relief package for workers for the month of May to ease the impact of rising living costs.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the measure during the 2026 May Day celebration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, the governor said the payment will be added to workers’ May salaries across all grade levels and may be reviewed going forward.

He said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to supporting workers, noting that sectors such as education, healthcare and public service remain critical to Lagos’ growth.

The administration also acknowledged challenges facing workers, including the high cost of living, long commuting hours and pension delays, adding that reforms are underway to address them.

The deputy governor assured that the government will continue to meet its obligations and complete ongoing projects before the end of its tenure.

Also speaking, Itemoagbo Eshomounu, who represented the Minister of Labour, stressed the need for continued collaboration between government and labour unions.

He commended workers for their contributions and called for stronger partnerships to improve productivity and working conditions across the state.
