The Lagos State Police Command has received 2,000 Cowry Cards from the Lagos State Government to ease transportation costs for police personnel serving across the state.
The cards were presented Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, who was represented by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Simeon Akpanudom of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos.
Under the state’s transportation support program, the 2,000 beneficiaries will receive three months of free travel on designated government services, including BRT buses, electric boats, the Blue Line and Red Line.
They will thereafter receive a 50% fare discount.
Akpanudom conveyed the inspector-general’s appreciation to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing the initiative as a thoughtful intervention that would “ease the transportation burden” on police personnel and boost morale.
He said the support would also strengthen cooperation between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in promoting public safety and good governance.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said the cards would be distributed fairly and transparently to deserving officers.
He assured that they would be used strictly for their intended purpose.
Fatai also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and using available resources to improve security across Lagos.
