Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and other senior Nigerian government officials are expected to represent the country at the maiden Canada-Africa Investment Summit in Toronto, Canada.
The summit, scheduled for August 10 to 15, 2026, will focus on digital infrastructure and inclusive economic growth, bringing together governments, investors, multinational companies, development finance institutions and other stakeholders.
According to a statement by the Zamfara State Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Presidency invited Lawal to participate in the summit as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic engagement with Canada.
The statement said the event would provide opportunities for Nigeria to attract investment, technology transfer, development funding and technical partnerships.
It added that Lawal’s participation would also help promote Zamfara State as an emerging destination for investment in agribusiness, strategic minerals, human capital development and digital innovation.
The Nigerian delegation includes the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo; Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang.
Also listed among the delegates are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Zamfara Government described the summit as a strategic economic mission aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic objectives and deepening Africa-Canada cooperation.
It said the engagement would also complement Nigeria’s National Energy Transition Plan and create opportunities for partnerships that could support economic transformation at both national and state levels.
