The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has given the Federal Government a three-week deadline to conclude negotiations over its outstanding demands or face possible industrial action.
The association issued the warning in a communiqué released Friday after its Emergency National Executive Council meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
NAMDA said the extension period, which ends Aug. 31, 2026, is to allow the government resolve all pending issues affecting its members.
The communiqué, signed by the association’s President, Dr. Nosa Lancy Orhue, and Acting Secretary-General, Prof. Aniekan Peter, said failure to reach a meaningful resolution by the deadline would lead to the declaration of a three-day warning strike.
The association directed its branches nationwide to mobilise members through congresses and sensitisation programmes during the three-week period and submit reports on their level of preparedness.
NAMDA criticised what it described as the government’s slow response to concluding negotiations, while commending the Directorate of State Services and other stakeholders for their interventions in the discussions.
The group also raised concerns over the declining state of medical education, shortage of medical and dental lecturers, and the migration of health professionals abroad.
It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the implementation of approved benefits for medical and dental academics and urged members to comply with directives from the association’s leadership.
