The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has welcomed the safe rescue of schoolchildren who were recently kidnapped, describing their return as a development worthy of thanksgiving.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Obi expressed relief and joy over the children's freedom and commended security personnel and others involved in securing their release.

“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he said.

While celebrating the successful rescue, Obi noted that the repeated abduction of schoolchildren remains a serious national challenge requiring urgent attention.

According to him, no child should have to endure the trauma of kidnapping, stressing the need for governments at all levels to strengthen the country's security architecture and prioritize the protection of lives and property.

He also emphasized that every Nigerian child deserves access to education in a safe and secure environment, free from fear and violence.

Obi called for sustained efforts to build a nation where children can pursue their education without the threat of abduction, adding that the rescue demonstrates what can be achieved through collective commitment and effective action.

He congratulated the rescued children, their families, schools and Nigerians at large on the successful operation, describing it as a positive outcome that offers hope amid ongoing security challenges.
