Governor Monday Okpebholo has condemned the kidnapping of several persons at the Vegetable Market area along Airport Road in Benin City, describing the incident as unacceptable and a direct attack on innocent residents.

The governor, in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, ordered the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to immediately launch a coordinated investigation into the incident, which occurred on Sunday.

Okpebholo directed security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and bring those behind the attack to justice.

He stressed that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of threatening public safety, security, or disturbing the peace of the state.

The governor also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies, noting that timely information would aid ongoing operations.

Reaffirming his commitment to protecting lives and property, Okpebholo vowed that his government would pursue all those responsible for the abduction and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

The incident has renewed concerns over security along parts of Benin City’s Airport Road and surrounding areas.
