Teachers in some public schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday staged a peaceful protest over the abduction of their colleagues and students during an attack on schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities.

The protesters carried placards and chanted solidarity songs while calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and tackle rising insecurity in the area.

The protest followed Friday’s attack by gunmen who reportedly invaded multiple schools in the Oriire axis of Ogbomoso, abducting teachers and students from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

The attack also claimed the lives of an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist.

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven teachers were abducted and disclosed that a video received by the state government showed that one of the victims, identified as a mathematics teacher, had been killed.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into a viral video allegedly showing the abducted victims pleading for help, while security agencies continue rescue operations.
