Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has met with U.S. Consul General in Lagos, Rick Swart, to discuss electoral credibility, opposition participation and Nigeria–U.S. relations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting, held in Lagos, focused on strengthening democratic processes and expanding economic cooperation between both countries.
Obi said the discussions also addressed trade and investment opportunities, describing the engagement as constructive.
“We focused on promoting credible elections and ensuring a level playing field for all political actors,” Obi said, adding that both sides also explored ways to deepen bilateral economic ties.
The talks come amid growing political realignments in Nigeria and increased international interest in the country’s democratic and economic outlook ahead of the next general election cycle.
