The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme in response to worsening insecurity, economic hardship and growing concerns surrounding the 2027 general elections.
The prayer programme is scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 24, 2026, with the Christian body saying the initiative is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, national healing, economic recovery and credible elections.
In a statement issued by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Ukafia, after a meeting of the Fellowship’s National Executive Council, the organisation said the decision followed extensive deliberations on the state of the nation.
The Fellowship expressed concern over persistent attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the worsening economic situation affecting many Nigerians.
According to the PFN, the period of fasting and prayer will coincide with the observance of Global Pentecost Day and will be guided by the biblical passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
The body called on churches, pastors, Christian leaders, youths, women and believers across the country to participate actively in the programme.
It stated that Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, would be dedicated to fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies nationwide, while Sunday, May 24, would feature a united national prayer gathering at designated venues across various states.
The PFN said prayers during the programme would focus on national peace and security, an end to terrorism and bloodshed, economic relief for citizens, unity among leaders, peaceful elections and the emergence of patriotic leadership.
The Fellowship also urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to remain united and hopeful despite current challenges facing the country.
