An improvised explosive device planted under a vehicle detonated at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, Lagos, on Monday, injuring one person and sending traders fleeing from the area.

Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani confirmed the incident, saying Explosive Ordnance Disposal operatives were immediately deployed to secure the scene and conduct a sweep for additional devices.

None were found.

The ownership of the vehicle under which the device was planted remains unclear, Tijani said, adding that remnants of the IED have been retrieved and sent for forensic analysis.

Tijani urged residents and traders in the area to remain calm and disregard rumours circulating about a wider security threat.

He said the command was actively investigating the origin and motive behind the attack.
