President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the ongoing political conflict in Rivers State.

He met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor, Nyesom Wike at a closed session of the Nigeria Police Council at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Tuesday.

The Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohamed, who briefed the press alongside other governors, said the president’s mediation was expected to bring peace back to Rivers State.

He added that PDP governors at the meeting commended President Tinubu for his peacemaking effort.

At the Tuesday meeting, the Police Council confirmed the Acting Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive police chief.

The Council also agreed to set up a special committee to examine gaps in Nigeria’s legal status.

This would lead to the harmonization and infusion of technology into police operations.

The Police Council is made up of the president, all state governors, the chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector General of Police.

It oversees the organization and administration of the police and advises the president on the Inspector-General's appointment.
