The Senate will summon authorities in the petroleum sector over reports of the renewal of petrol subsidy payments

This is according to the senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo.

Last week, the Daily Trust newspaper reported that the federal government paid N169.4 billion in subsidies in August.

This is a departure from President Bola Tinubu’s declaration when he was inaugurated on 29 May that the petrol subsidy had ended.

But the Daily Trust reported that the alleged payment of subsidy in August was to keep the pump price of petrol at N620 a liter.

Senator Abbo told journalists in Lagos that a Senate investigation would seek to ascertain if and why the subsidy was paid when President Tinubu declared an end to it.
