Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled to hold in New Delhi, India, this weekend.
Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, said in a statement Friday that the Vice President would join leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, as well as other invited dignitaries, for plenary and high-level sessions.
He said discussions at the summit would focus on global economic growth, multilateral cooperation and shared development priorities.
Nkwocha said Shettima would also hold bilateral meetings with leaders and senior officials from participating countries, with talks expected to focus on opportunities for stronger economic and diplomatic cooperation.
He said the summit would provide Nigeria with an opportunity to strengthen partnerships in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology and innovation, while promoting greater cooperation among countries of the Global South.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, joining the economic bloc of major emerging economies.
The 18th summit is being held under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
According to Nkwocha, the meeting would also provide Nigeria an opportunity to deepen South-South cooperation and engage major emerging economies on trade, investment, development finance and reforms to global governance institutions.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after participating in the summit.
