The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, will be standing trial for alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

News of the charges, brought by the Department of State Services (DSS), was revealed at the weekend.

A copy of the charge sheet shows the case was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday 13 July.

But many more things happened at the weekend.

In sports, world 100 meters hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, set a new meet record at the Silesi Diamond League, where she finished the 100-meter-hurdles race in 12.34 seconds.

This is 22 seconds behind her personal best and world record of 12.12 seconds set at the World Athletics Championship in July 2022.
