The Nigeria Labour Congress is about to embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday, 2 August 2023.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the congress’ Central Working Committee that took place at Labour House in Abuja on Tuesday, 25 August.

The National Treasurer of the NLC, Hakeem Ambali, said that it is giving the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to reverse all of its “anti-poor” policies.

These include the removal of petrol subsidies without economic cushions for Nigerians.

The government has tried to prevent a workers’ strike or protest by setting up a committee to negotiate with the NLC and TUC over palliatives for workers.

The government had also gone to court to compel the labor unions from going on strike.
