President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.

The nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, was disclosed in a statement shared on X by presidential aide Olusegun Dada.

According to the statement, the President has formally transmitted Tegbe’s name to the Senate for screening in line with constitutional provisions.

Adelabu had earlier stepped down from the role to pursue elective office, creating a vacancy in the power ministry.

In a separate statement, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Tegbe as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with more than 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.

Tegbe previously served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on regulatory frameworks and investment strategies.

He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Tegbe is also said to have experience within Nigeria’s power sector, including engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, particularly in areas of regulatory and institutional reform.

His nomination now awaits Senate screening and confirmation.
