Tinubu to Inaugurate Kaduna-Kano, Kano-Maradi Rail Sections Dec. 3

President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate sections of the Kaduna-Kano and Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway projects on Dec. 3, as the Federal Government moves to expand rail connectivity in northern Nigeria.

Dele Alake, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, disclosed this in a statement issued Sunday.

Alake said the 203-kilometre Kaduna-Kano project was about 90 percent complete, with the 190-kilometre Jaji-Kano section scheduled for inauguration.

The line extends the Abuja-Kaduna standard-gauge railway and is expected to connect Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria and Kano when fully operational.

The 400-kilometre Kano-Katsina-Maradi project is also about 70 percent complete. A completed 250-kilometre section linking Dawanu, Kano, Kazaure, Daura and Katsina is scheduled for commissioning on the same day.

A Federal Government inspection team led by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Funso Adebiyi, recently assessed the projects on Tinubu’s directive.

The team reportedly expressed satisfaction with the construction quality, including the rail alignment, drainage, embankment protection and soil stabilisation. It also conducted a test-run journey from Jaji to Kano to assess the track and passenger comfort.

Tinubu has directed that outstanding land acquisition and compensation issues in Kaduna metropolis be resolved to facilitate the completion of the Abuja-Kano rail corridor.
