US President Donald Trump says there are no talks with Iran, despite reports that Washington and Tehran have been holding discussions.
Trump also posted a map describing the Strait of Hormuz as “new US territory” and said the US naval blockade of Iran remains in place.
The comments came as tensions remain high over the strategic waterway, which carries about one fifth of the world’s oil supplies.
Iran has refused to reopen the strait, demanding an end to the US blockade and sanctions.
The UAE has also suspended trade and financial dealings with Iran after accusing Tehran of firing missiles towards maritime routes.
Qatar, meanwhile, says a possible agreement between Iran and Oman could help create room for fresh talks.
