Works Minister Sen. Dave Umahi on Thursday inspected the ongoing construction of the new Carter Bridge and sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, including areas damaged by vandalism, as the Federal Government stepped up monitoring of major infrastructure projects in Lagos.

Umahi, accompanied by ministry directors, senior officials, Lagos Federal Controller of Works Olufemi Dare and representatives of the contractor, assessed construction activities at the project sites.

At the Carter Bridge site, the minister engaged engineers on the progress of work and reviewed the technical processes being used to deliver the project.

Umahi stressed the need for strict compliance with construction standards, saying the bridge must meet the required quality and specifications.

He also urged motorists to exercise caution around the construction zone and drive safely while work continues.

The minister later inspected sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and assessed areas reportedly vandalised by hoodlums. He received updates on the condition of the affected sections and ongoing construction activities.

The inspection was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to monitor progress and address challenges affecting key road infrastructure projects in Lagos.
