The Coalition of Concerned (military) Veterans (CCV) has resolved to shut down activities at the Ministry of Finance beginning from 10 January 2023, if their Security Debarment Allowance is not settled by the federal government before 31 December.

President Muhammadu Buhari approved N134.7 billion for the allowance during the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund Day on 16 November 2022.

The Secretary of the SDA Technical Committee, Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, disclosed that it took a series of meetings after that to get the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, to agree to pay the allowance in tranches.

The payment was to be spread over three years, but the veterans rejected the offer.

Durowaiye-Herberts lamented what he said was his humiliating experience at the Finance Ministry.

He also said paying the SDA over three years will defeat the purpose for which it is meant.
