The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to surrender his political structure in Rivers State.

He stated this on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in his office in Abuja.

Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba State attended the meeting.

Wike told them he would not be intimidated into surrendering his political base while noting that impeachment moves were not equivalent to a military coup but were a provision in Nigeria’s constitution.

He also dismissed accusations of demanding a share of the financial allocations to Rivers State, insisting his only interest was in not allowing the destruction of the political system he set up in the state.

The chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, Bala Mohammed, thanked Wike for his audience and said he and his colleagues decided to intervene in the feud between Wike and his political godson, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, because of the state’s importance to the PDP.

The feud became public following plans by the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara.

On Sunday night, a part of the House of Assembly complex in Port Harcourt was set on fire, and the following day, 24 members of the House began impeachment proceedings against the governor.

The tide later turned in favor of Governor Fubara as some members of the House sat at the Government House to elect a factional speaker.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), intervened in the dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

Neither Fubara nor Wike has publicly stated what the feud is about.
