The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has revised its health declaration requirements for travellers arriving in Nigeria amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The NCDC said only travellers from countries with active or relevant Ebola transmission may be required to complete a health declaration form.
Travellers arriving from all other countries are currently exempt from completing the form.
The agency announced the change in an interim public health advisory dated September 22.
It said the decision followed an update on the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was based on Nigeria’s latest risk assessment.
The NCDC said it reached the decision after consultations with public health experts and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The agency urged Nigerians and travellers to remain alert to symptoms associated with Ebola and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop.
Travellers were also advised to provide health authorities with relevant travel or exposure information where necessary.
The NCDC said Nigeria remains on high alert, with preparedness and response activities continuing across the country.
It added that the measures would be reviewed regularly as the Ebola situation and public health risks change.
