The federal government has announced its plan to file 20 fresh charges against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the federation, revealed this decision at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
The court session saw the postponement of the hearing regarding the government's application to withdraw the "illegal possession of firearms" charge against Emefiele.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the court session, the DPP said a fresh 20 counts have been filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court against the suspended CBN governor.
Abubakar said the application for withdrawal was made due to “emerging facts that require further investigation”.
This withdrawal may potentially lead to the introduction of more charges in the future, as stated by Abubakar.
