The Lagos State Police Command says it is fully prepared to provide security before, during and after the 2027 general elections, assuring residents that there is no cause for alarm.
Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani gave the assurance Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Area E Police Command in Festac, Lagos.
Tijani said the safety of residents remained a priority for the command, especially as the electioneering period would involve the movement of people across different locations.
“Ensuring the safety of people is very paramount to us,” he said.
“The electioneering that we are entering into will entail the movement of people from one location to another, and we need to secure all the people that will be involved in the election.”
The police commissioner said the command had made adequate preparations to maintain security throughout the electoral process.
“I can assure you there is no cause for alarm before, during and after the election.
"We are fully prepared for it,” Tijani said.
He called on Lagos residents to work with the police by providing timely and useful information that could help prevent crime and address emerging security threats.
“We urge residents to collaborate with us so as to have a very robust security system,” he said.
Tijani also expressed concern about youth involvement in crime, cultism and hooliganism, urging parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to play a greater role in guiding young people.
The commissioner further called for cooperation among stakeholders to prevent political violence and other forms of criminality before, during and after the elections.
