Waste compactors are spending less time queuing to offload refuse at the Olusosun Dumpsite following an upgrade of its tipping platform, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says.
The authority’s Executive Director of Finance, Kunle Adebiyi, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying the extension and stabilisation of the facility’s E1 tipping platforms had improved waste discharge operations.
He said the upgrade had also improved truck turnaround and strengthened LAWMA’s ability to clear accumulated waste backlogs and tackle refuse black spots across Lagos.
However, Adebiyi expressed concern over indiscriminate waste disposal and the return of refuse to locations previously cleared by the authority.
He warned that dumping refuse on road medians and other unauthorised locations undermines sanitation efforts, particularly in areas recently cleaned.
Adebiyi urged residents to use their assigned Private Sector Participation operators for proper waste collection and disposal.
He said keeping Lagos clean required collective responsibility and called on residents to adopt better waste disposal habits.
LAWMA said it would continue to improve its operations and waste evacuation across the state.
