The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from a purported announcement of a Presidential Campaign Council under the “OK Movement,” saying the publication did not emanate from the party.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, the party said the announcement, attributed to one John Ugulu, should be disregarded by the public and the media.
The NDC said its candidates are not running as independent candidates but remain subject to the authority and discipline of the party.
It said only the party leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council, adding that no individual, candidate or support group is authorised to announce or publish any campaign council, structure or organ in the party’s name without prior approval from the National Working Committee.
The party acknowledged the contributions of its support groups and encouraged them to continue supporting its mission, but warned that such groups should not operate as alternative party structures or parallel organs.
The NDC also urged members and support groups with grievances to use the party’s internal channels for resolution instead of publicly attacking the party.
The statement said the party has referred Mr. Ugulu to its appropriate disciplinary organ over what it described as his “excesses” during the party’s primary election in Lagos State and his alleged repeated disregard for party authority.
The party said it remains focused on its issue-based campaign and its commitment to delivering what it described as “a New Nigeria that is possible.”
