Accord Party presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has described the continued administration of President Bola Tinubu as a “national security risk,” citing the level of violence and displacement in Nigeria.
Olawepo-Hashim made the comment in an interview with veteran journalist Seun Okinbaloye in which he assessed the Tinubu administration’s record on security, the economy and national unity.
He claimed that more than 30,000 people had been killed by terrorists during Tinubu’s first three years in office, while about 3.7 million people had been displaced and were living in internally displaced persons, or IDP, camps.
Similar figures have previously been cited by Olawepo-Hashim.
He argued that the scale of insecurity made the issue a national emergency and said the government’s primary responsibility was to protect lives and property.
Olawepo-Hashim also criticised the administration’s performance in other areas.
Asked about Tinubu’s strongest achievement, he said there was “none,” and described the administration’s performance in the economy as a “colossal failure.”
He also gave a negative assessment of national security and national unity, saying Nigerians are now more divided than they have ever been.
“What would you say is his greatest failure?” he asked.
“All.”
Olawepo-Hashim has previously called for a stronger response to insecurity, saying terrorists and armed criminal groups should no longer be allowed to control the timing and location of attacks.
His comments come as he campaigns ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
