Russia and Ukraine exchanged deadly overnight strikes Sunday, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens as both sides stepped up long-range attacks.
In Ukraine, Russian strikes killed two people in Kharkiv and injured 23 others, according to regional officials.
A Russian drone hit a high-rise apartment building in the city, destroying four floors.
Eight people were also injured in Odesa after Russian missiles and drones struck the southern port city, damaging residential buildings, the power grid and port facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia was using “ballistic terror” against his country and said 61 missiles of various types had been fired at Ukraine during the week.
“More pressure, more sanctions against Russia and more air defence for Ukraine are needed,” Zelenskyy said.
He also described another Russian strike near a shopping center in Pavlohrad as “absolutely brutal.” Nine people, including four children, were injured there, he said.
In Russia’s Belgorod region, Ukrainian drone attacks killed five people and injured 25 others, including children, Russian authorities said.
The attacks damaged apartment buildings, private homes and commercial facilities, while fires broke out in several locations.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had shot down 153 Ukrainian drones overnight and claimed its strikes targeted Ukrainian military fuel depots and other supplies.
The escalation comes as peace efforts remain stalled.
Zelenskyy said the strikes on Odesa also threatened global food security because the city is a major route for Ukraine’s agricultural exports.
