Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman is on the verge of winning his first major title with Atlético de Madrid as they face Real Sociedad in the 2026 Copa del Rey final.

The final, scheduled for Seville, offers the Super Eagles star a chance to cap an impressive start to life in Spain following his move from Atalanta earlier this year.

Lookman has quickly become a key figure under coach Diego Simeone, playing decisive roles in cup competitions.

He contributed a goal and an assist in Atlético’s dominant first-leg semi-final win over Barcelona, a performance that proved crucial in securing their place in the final.

Atlético are chasing their 11th Copa del Rey title, while Sociedad are aiming for their fourth.

Despite recent struggles in La Liga, Simeone’s side remain optimistic of ending their long wait for domestic cup success, having last lifted the trophy in the 2012–13 season.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Simeone expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.

“We will be ready,” he said, stressing the importance of focus and preparation for the decisive match.

For Lookman, the stakes are also personal.

Victory would make him one of the few Nigerians to win the competition, following Emmanuel Amuneke, who achieved the feat with Barcelona in 1997.

Atlético head into the final after securing a Champions League semi-final spot, boosting morale despite inconsistent domestic form.

With both clubs seeking silverware, the match presents Lookman with a defining opportunity to mark his rapid rise in Spanish football with a historic first title.
